Pretending Not To Panic

The extremes of political rhetoric talk about the dire consequences of possible policies, but it is all talk. In Venezuela, it is happening. A collection of strong ideological choices and an upset in the country’s revenues have lead to a collapsing economy and country. The article lists the incredible realities of people being jailed over toilet paper and others dying for lack of medication. Everyday necessities can’t be taken for granted. The easiest numbers for generalizing the situation may be inflation;

“the International Monetary Fund now projects that prices will rise by 720 percent this year and 2,200 percent in 2017″ – The Atlantic

Most governments get worried with 5% inflation. 720% now raising to 2,200% next year are the sorts of numbers and impacts that have created revolutions. Amongst the talk about policies, we unfortunately have the opportunity to witness the real time consequences.
